The study program “Sustainable Tourism and International Development”, which is embedded in the Bachelor’s degree in Tourism at the University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur, Switzerland, was launched in 2017, simultaneously with the International Year of Sustainable Tourism (IY2017) of the United Nations.
The combination of tourism, sustainability and development cooperation in a study program is a novelty. The content of the major “Sustainable Tourism and International Development” is highly topical and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Graduates will be able to take over specialist and executive positions in the area of sustainable tourism development on regional, national and international level. In order to implement sustainable principles in tourism, tourism professionals with expert knowledge in sustainable tourism management, corporate social responsibility and international development cooperation will be indispensable.
