III Symposium of Scientific Tourism Researchers
22-09-2025

Scientific tourism has gained significant ground in recent years as an innovative model that connects research, education, and travel through immersive and participatory experiences. Following the successful editions held in 2023 and 2024, which drew strong interest from professionals, researchers, and students, the upcoming Scientific Tourism Meeting in Argentina seeks to further consolidate the country and the region as key references in this emerging field.

The event, scheduled for November 11–12, 2025, will provide a space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration between diverse actors committed to advancing scientific tourism. With an agenda designed to encourage debate and reflection without overwhelming participants, the meeting will balance technical content with accessibility, ensuring an engaging and productive experience for all attendees.

By continuing the momentum of previous editions, this year’s meeting aims not only to deepen the visibility and understanding of scientific tourism but also to strengthen Argentina’s role as a regional leader in promoting knowledge-based tourism practices. The initiative underscores the potential of scientific tourism as a tool for sustainable development, cultural exchange, and international positioning, reaffirming its growing importance within Latin America’s tourism landscape.

Side Event at The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3)
24-07-2025

“Tourism: Driving economic diversification and inclusion in LLDCs”

In 2019, prior to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, LLDCs received 50.2 million international tourists generating USD 22.6 billion in exports. Tourism represented 10% of total exports and an estimated 4% direct GDP. LLDCs accounted for 3.5% of all international tourist arrivals but only 1.3% of revenues. In 2024, as international tourism recovered preliminary data indicates that the group of LLDCs has welcomed 50 million international tourist arrivals, around the same level as prior to the pandemic. Tourism plays a significant role in the priority areas of the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA) for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) for the Decade 2024–2034, specifically when it comes to structural transformation, private sector development, foreign direct investment, transit, transport, and connectivity. The Side-Event will provide a set of recommendations on policies and initiatives to accelerate sustainable tourism development in LLDCs as an effective means for economic diversification and socio-economic inclusion through rural tourism as well as sharing of good practices among public and private sector and international organizations.   All side events are in-person; live-streaming will not be available. The event will take place in English; no interpretation will be available. Date: 6th August 2025 Time: 13:15 – 14:45 Venue: Awaza, Conference Center Room: 3-07.08
Better Data for a Better Tourism in SIDS
10-04-2024
SIDS are committed to increasing resilience by revitalizing and diversifying their economies, notably through a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable tourism model. The UN has acknowledged tourism's potential to contribute to sustainable development, by declaring 2027 the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism (A/RES/78/260). Despite the recognition, tourism remains underrepresented in international financing for development as only 0.17% of ODA was allocated to tourism in 2022, hindering its potential to foment socio-economic growth, accelerate the transition to sustainable practices, and as an effective means to attract investment for SIDS. A lack of reliable and comparable data further complicates progress. This event will explore frameworks and tools to comprehensively measure tourism's impact, dependencies, and growth ‘beyond GDP’, fostering informed decision-making for its sustainable advancement.
