Located in the southern part of the Ise Plain in Mie Prefecture, Meiwa Town has a population of 23,072 (as of March 2021) and an area of 41.04 km2. Blessed with agricultural and abundant marine products from the Ise Plain, a breadbasket region. Steeped in history, the town is home to the site of the Saiku, a former palace complex that for 660 years, that from the Asuka period (592 to 710) to the Nanboku-cho period (1336 to 1392), was the home of Saio, an unmarried Imperial princess who served at Ise Jingu Shrine on behalf of the emperor. In 2015, the Saiku story that revolves around Saio and Saiku, was designated as Japan's Heritage by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan under the title of “Saiku: The Palace of Saio - the Imperial Princess Prays”, and the historical Saiku Heian Era Park, featuring three reconstructed Heian period buildings and a district road, opened to the public.
This was major step forward in the promotion of tourism in Meiwa Town, leading to the establishment of a general incorporated association, Meiwa Sightseeing Trading Company, in January 2019, which became a registered DMO in 2020.

In FY 2021, the 6th Comprehensive Plan, the Meiwa Town Sightseeing Promotion Plan, the Meiwa Town Historical Landscape Maintenance and Improvement Plan (Phase 2), and the Jingu Gateway Saiku Creation Project were all launched. The Meiwa Sightseeing Trading Company plays a central role in strategically developing branding, marketing, and area management centered on the story of the Saiku and Saio, which are closely related to the famous Ise Jingu Shrine, and the cultural assets and heritage associated with the Saiku and Saio.
