The SDG Tourism Task Force 2024 Initiative is an innovative program that promotes sustainable tourism practices in Latin America and the Caribbean. the initiative offers workshops, project development frameworks, and knowledge transfer networks to put the region on a sustainable tourism path.
The initiative is a powerful global platform that convenes stakeholders from across the tourism sector – governments, international organizations, and civil society – to collectively advance the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs) within tourism.
Workshops at the Heart of the Initiative:
The workshops of the SDG Tourism Task Force 2024 Initiative are at the heart of the program. In these interactive sessions, participants from different areas of the tourism sector come together to jointly develop solutions and project development frameworks. Design Thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and inspiring success stories from around the world form the basis for the development of tailored project approaches that are tailored to the specific needs of each destination.
The initiative focuses on four key areas that are essential for sustainable tourism:
Rural Tourism: Local communities are supported in presenting their unique culture and way of life through tourism offers while receiving a fair share of the economic benefits.
Community-based Tourism: The active participation of local communities in tourism development is promoted to ensure balanced and sustainable growth.
Ecotourism: Environmentally friendly tourism practices are encouraged to protect the region's valuable biodiversity and natural resources.
Cultural Tourism: Latin America and the Caribbean's rich cultural heritage is made accessible to visitors through authentic experiences and events.
