In 2015 – the people, the governments and private businesses of the world – came together under the United Nations with a common vision to embark on a journey that heralds an historic turning point. We committed to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and fix climate change, laying the foundation for the betterment of people, the planet, prosperity and peace through partnerships by 2030. Creating the future we want requires all hands on deck given the sheer magnitude and speed of the required changes. The universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals set the chart that we all must embrace.
The Platform developed by UNWTO, the UN Specialized Agency for tourism, encourages the tourism sector and travellers to become key actors in the implementation and achievement of the 2030 Agenda and of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).While providing a clearinghouse and a roadmap to tourism stakeholders to have an active role, the platform offers a shared co-creation space until 2030 and beyond.
It aims at inspiring public policy makers to shape better policies for tourism, strengthening the engagement of the private sector in the SDGs implementation along with the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and their CSR strategies, increasing financing framework and enhancing partnerships among different stakeholders, including travellers.
